In 2019 we attended the Best of Brighouse awards as guests of a fellow business. It was a fantastic evening filled with all things Brighouse. We celebrated the achievements of local businesses and individuals. This year we were delighted to find out we have been nominated for the Best of Brighouse Award we are asking out customers, family and friends to nominate us if you feel we represent the Best of Brighouse.

Prego Italian Café Bar & Restaurant and the Waterfront Hotel and Venue was established in July 2000 by our Director Lidia Shinwell and her father Marino Bevilacqua. The business began as a 42 bedroom hotel and 80 seat restaurant. In 2006 we added new executive bedrooms to the hotel and expanded the restaurant to offer a new dining area and a large bar-lounge, which is now known as the Prego Suite, used for private events and weddings.

Family has always been at the heart of Prego, we offer a venue accessible for all the family whether you are visiting with a newborn, with young children or as an adult. We intend to provide a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience offering something for everyone.

In October 2017 we were awarded “Best restaurant for children in Calderdale” by the Soil Association and Food for Life. The healthy eating survey was commissioned by Calderdale Council, restaurants were scored on areas including; where products are sourced, portions of fruit and vegetables available and how much of the children’s menu is made fresh. We were voted number one, in front of many chain restaurants in the borough.

Over the years we have supported many charities and participated in lots of fundraising activities including the Hilly Half Marathon for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice (Photo of the team in their running tops). We work with other local businesses to raise funds, a great example of this are the Moo Boutique Fashion Shows (Photo of Lidia and Ness). Over the past twelve months we have provided food on the first Friday of the month for the homeless feed with Focus 4 Hope. We contributed to Hope, their new minibus which now allows them to transport their clients around and make their activities and facilities more accessible.

Our director Lidia organises regular Canal Clean Up’s, the event gathers volunteers and local businesses to help improve the appearance of the canal banks from the canal basin to Avocet. She is also a 99er member of Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice and a trustee for Rokt Foundation.

Each year we support the Friends of Brighouse Station by sponsoring two planters, the aim of this ongoing project is to make the train station, the entry point for many visitors to Brighouse welcoming and attractive.

As a business we are aiming to reduce waste and our carbon footprint, we have introduced new policies and procedures over the past 8 months to reduce waste and recycle where possible. Takeaway containers are changing to biodegradable materials, along with the straws in the bar. These changes are all part of a larger plan to reduce our environmental impact.

We have once again been awarded a level 5 Food Hygiene rating by the food Standards Agency (Visited 04.02.20)
